1. Description:
Zirconia (ZrO2)
bioceramics have been an outstanding biocompatible
biomaterial. Due to its good tribological properties, this material is used
for fabricating hip prostheses as the articulating ball. Generally,
zirconia undergoes a large volumetric change during phase
transformation at high temperatures. Partially stabilized zirconia
(PSZ), as an alternative for alumina
biomaterials, is used for implant fabrication. PSZ has better mechanical
properties than that of the alumina. The mechanical strength of
zirconia dental implants is equivalent to teeth and this material
posses good toughness of fracture and less expensive of production
than that of alumina.
